Gentle

Do not think that this is boring, simplified, or incomplete Yoga. Not at all! The Hatha Yoga practice in a slow and gentle way allows you to go much deeper in poses and breathing exercises than you would be able to go on an intense and hard session, even if you are not an athletic and fully healthy person. It offers access to the whole benefit of a traditional hatha yoga practice, with comfort and safety. Developing mobility and strength in a sequence of poses and movements, focusing especially on breath, balance, and flexibility, to maintain and increase vitality.

Hatha Yoga for Beginners

I love teaching yoga to beginners. It’s such a blessing to see the benefits, immediately after a session, and also in the short term, to see the deep transformation starting with a regular practice. I have been going through that transformation, and I have seen so many people around me going through it. Impossible to describe.

  • My approach to a beginner’s class will alternate experimentation, explanation, and experimentation, in this order.
    • A 90 to 120 minutes class will include an introduction to meditation, to pranayama, a handful of sun salutations, a sequence of asanas, and finally a guided relaxation. It’s a whole story.
    • A 60 minute class will include only an introduction to meditation, a couple of sun salutations, a short series of asanas, and a short relaxation.
  • I highly recommend beginners go follow workshops or jump into yogic immersion retreats after a few months of regular practice. Don’t wait too long and waste time in stagnation due to a lack of understanding.
Gentle Yoga for Seniors

When a Senior discovers yoga it can be spectacular. Seniors have nothing to prove, they don’t care about what others think, and they are able to let go better than young ambitious people. Learning starts with letting go of something we know, creating that space, and welcoming something new. Yoga on a chair is a great way to practice in comfortable and safe conditions for those who have limited mobility and fragile bodies.

  • A gentle yoga class for seniors will be 45 to 60 minutes in a small group. I will alternate all dimensions of hatha yoga in a slower approach, with more precaution. One class will focus on balance, another class will focus on breathing, and another on stretching. Then we can practice it all together.
